Objective
This article explains how to use Revenue Recognition in PSOhub to view the recognized value of your project's contract lines based on completion percentages, and to assess whether your project is performing within budget.
Prerequisites
✅ You have Admin, Controller, or Project Manager access with financials enabled✅ Completion percentages have been set for your project's contract lines
Steps
- Open the project you want to review.
- Click the Financials tab.
- Click Revenue Recognition from the sub-tabs at the top of the Financials view.
- Review the recognized revenue for each contract line.
📌 Note: The Recognized column shows the contract value attributed to the work completed so far, calculated using the completion percentage set in Completion Management. The Used column shows the total value of hours logged against the contract line based on selling rates.
📌 Note: The Result is calculated as: Result = Recognized − Used. A negative Result means more hours have been spent than the recognized revenue justifies — the contract line is at a loss at its current completion level.
Result
The Revenue Recognition view displays recognized revenue and profitability per contract line based on your current completion percentages.
The formula applied is:
Result = Recognized Revenue − Used (hours at selling rate)
If the Result column shows a negative value, the project has consumed more cost than the recognized revenue covers at this stage of completion.
The Key Performance Indicators panel on the Summary tab reflects the overall project completion and actuals, giving you a high-level view of project health alongside the detailed Revenue Recognition breakdown.
💡 Tip: Review Revenue Recognition regularly as your project progresses. Updating completion percentages in Completion Management will automatically recalculate the recognized values shown here.
Troubleshooting
The Revenue Recognition sub-tab is not visible in the Financials view.
This tab is only available to Admins, Controllers, and Project Managers with access to project financials. Contact your PSOhub administrator to review your access level.
All recognized values show $0.00.
Revenue Recognition calculates from the completion percentages set in Completion Management. If no percentages have been entered, all recognized values will be zero. Navigate to Financials > Completion Management and update the Progress fields first.
The Result column shows a large negative value.
This indicates that the hours logged (at selling rate) exceed the recognized revenue for that contract line at its current completion percentage. Review whether the completion percentage accurately reflects delivered work, or investigate whether hours are being over-logged against that line.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Revenue Recognition automatically update when I log hours?
The Used column updates as hours are logged. The Recognized column only updates when you change the completion percentage in Completion Management.
Can I use Revenue Recognition with Time & Materials contract lines?
Yes. Revenue Recognition applies to Fixed Fee, Time & Materials, and Retainer contract lines.
Where can I see a summary of revenue recognition across all my projects?
A summary of revenue recognition per project is available from the Project Overview. Navigate to your project list and open the relevant project, then select the Revenue Recognition tab from the project overview.
What is the difference between Recognized Revenue and Invoiced Revenue?
Recognized Revenue represents the value of work completed based on your progress percentage — it is an earned value calculation. Invoiced Revenue is the amount that has actually been billed to the customer. The two figures may differ if invoicing is ahead of or behind completion.
