Objective
This article explains how to use Dynamics 365 project management in PSOhub to create a new project directly from an existing opportunity in Microsoft Dynamics 365. Follow these steps to set up your project structure, define a contract, and assign your team.
Prerequisites
Steps
- Navigate to Projects in the main menu and select Projects. Click Create.
- In the creation window, click the Microsoft Dynamics 365 tile.
- In the Search opportunities in D365 window, type the name of the opportunity (you can enter just the first few characters) and click Search.
- Search for and select the opportunity you want to create the project from.
📌 Note: Only opportunities linked to an account in Dynamics 365 will appear in the search results.
5. The Project Quick Setup window opens, pre-populated with data from the selected opportunity.
6. Review and complete the fields in the Project Quick Setup window. Click Next.💡 Tip: The project name defaults to the name of the opportunity. You can update it here if needed.
7. Select a contract template to define the billing structure for this project. Click Next.
8. Add your team - Use the Filter on Business Unit dropdown to select the business unit containing the users you want to add.
9. Select the users from the Resources list and click Add to team. The selected users will appear in the Project members field.10. Click Create.
Result
Your PSOhub project is created and linked to the Dynamics 365 opportunity. The project name, deal amount, and description are automatically inherited from the opportunity. A direct link back to the Dynamics 365 opportunity is available in the project's left panel.
From this point, any changes to your contract, budget, and team members are tracked in the project's Activity tab and will also appear in the related opportunity's timeline in Dynamics 365.
📌 Note: PSOhub automatically brings over the company and all associated contacts from Dynamics 365 when the project is created.
Troubleshooting
The opportunity I'm looking for doesn't appear in the search results.
Only opportunities linked to an account in Dynamics 365 will appear. Check that the opportunity has an account associated with it in Dynamics 365 before searching again.
I can't see the Microsoft Dynamics 365 tile when creating a project.
The Dynamics 365 integration may not be connected to your PSOhub organization. Contact your PSOhub Admin to verify the integration is active in your settings.
Team members I want to add are not showing in the Resources list.
The user list is filtered by business unit. Make sure you have selected the correct business unit in the Filter on Business Unit dropdown. If users still do not appear, check that they have been assigned to the correct business unit in your organization settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I create a project from a Dynamics 365 opportunity that is not yet linked to an account?
No. PSOhub requires the opportunity to be linked to an account in Dynamics 365 before it can be used to create a project. Link the opportunity to an account in Dynamics 365 first, then return to PSOhub to create the project.
Will changes I make in PSOhub sync back to Dynamics 365?
Activity changes to your project — including contract, budget, and team member updates — will appear in the related opportunity's timeline in Dynamics 365. Billing and invoice data are not synced back automatically.
Can I change the project stage after creation?
Yes. You can update the stage at any time from the project detail view by clicking the relevant stage button at the top of the project.
What happens if I create the project in the Proposal stage?
No time or expense entries can be logged against the project while it is in the Proposal stage. This gives you time to complete the project setup before making it available to your team.
