Objective
This article explains how to plan project hours from task effort using the Resource Planning tab in PSOhub. By syncing task effort to the Resource Planning tab, you populate your project's planned hours automatically — based on the effort, assignees, and dates already set on your tasks.
Prerequisites
You must have Admin, Controller or Project Manager access level.
If you have Project Manager access, you must be the assigned Project Manager for the project, or you must be the Backup Project Manager.
The project has at least one task list linked to a contract line.
Each task you want to sync has a start date, a due date, effort greater than 0 hours, and at least one resource or role assigned.
Steps
- Open your project and go to the Tasks tab.
- Review your task list. Make sure each task you want to include meets the prerequisites above. Tasks with missing dates, zero effort, or no assignee will be excluded from the sync.
- Click Push task effort to planning in the top right corner of the Tasks tab.
- The Effort to planning confirmation window opens. Review the summary — the number of eligible tasks and the total effort that will be pushed.
- Click Update to confirm.
- PSOhub processes the sync. A progress screen shows each step as it completes.
- Once finished, click Close.
- Go to the Resource Planning tab to review the result. The grid now shows the synced hours, grouped by task list and resource, distributed across the months covered by each task's start and due dates.
How the sync works
PSOhub applies the following rules when pushing task effort to Resource Planning:
| Rule | Details |
|---|---|
| Multi-month tasks | Effort is divided equally across the months the task spans. |
| Multiple assignees | Effort is divided equally among all resources assigned to the task. |
| Role assignment | If a team member has multiple roles, the task role filter is applied. If no role filter is set, the team member's default role is used. |
| Excluded tasks | Tasks with missing dates, zero effort, no assignee, or milestone status are skipped. Tasks in task lists not linked to a contract line are also excluded. |
📌 Note: The sync supports plans with up to 100 tasks. Plans with more than 100 tasks will not be fully synced.
Result
The Resource Planning tab is now populated with planned hours based on your task effort. The grand total reflects the combined effort of all eligible tasks across all task lists.
The Resource Planning is set to Read Only after a task effort sync. This prevents manual edits from conflicting with your task plan. If you edit hours manually in the Resource Planning, those changes will not be reflected back in the tasks — and they will be overwritten the next time you push task effort to planning.
📌 Note: The date of the last sync is shown below the project title in the Resource Planning tab.
FAQs and Troubleshooting
Some tasks are not appearing in the Resource Planning after the sync.
Check that each missing task has a start date, a due date, effort greater than 0, and at least one resource or role assigned. Also confirm the task list is linked to a contract line that is not an expense contract line, and that the task is not set as a milestone.
The Effort to planning dialog shows fewer tasks than expected.
Only tasks that meet all sync conditions are counted. Open the task list and check each task individually. Tasks with dd/MM/yyyy in the date fields have not had dates entered yet.
